Description

A skilled and creative Junior Filmmaker who plays a part in ITCH Media’s visual storytelling initiatives and holds a pivotal role in the media production team. The Junior Filmmaker assists the filmmaker department and takes on client projects, helping to shape the visual identity of our work by filming and editing projects from pre-production through to post-production.

Their developing skill set is crucial in creating engaging and impactful content that resonates with our audience.

They collaborate primarily with other filmmakers, providing essential support on set and in post-production, taking ownership of smaller tasks, and working towards leading on smaller shoots as their confidence and expertise grow.

Key Skills

  • Some experience or training as a Junior Filmmaker, with a portfolio showcasing practical work.
  • Ability to operate a range of camera equipment with familiarity in basic filmmaking techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of lighting setups for varied scenarios.
  • Post-production skills, including basic editing and sound design.
  • Understanding of the colour grading process.
  • Creative and artistic sensibilities, with the ability to contribute to compelling visual content.
  • Strong communication skills for working effectively within a crew.
  • Ability to adapt to different project requirements and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard video production software and equipment.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibility

  • Assist in the delivery of creative and technical elements for assigned productions.
  • Maintain ITCH’s quality standards while developing skills in filmmaking and post-production.
  • Support the upkeep and organisation of filmmaking equipment.

General

  • Assist in developing and maintaining the visual style and aesthetic for projects.
  • Contribute to creative development, helping prepare decks that communicate the project vision.
  • Assist with project planning and concept development, including PPMs, script analysis, storyboarding, shot lists, location scouting, and equipment selection.
  • Support the film crew on set, assisting camera operators, gaffers, and grips.
  • Progress towards directing smaller-scale shoots where a separate Director is not required.
  • Operate a range of camera equipment, including mirrorless and cinema cameras, under supervision, ensuring correct settings, composition, and focus.
  • Assist with lighting setups to achieve the desired mood and visual impact.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies and creative techniques.

Production

  • Work closely with other filmmakers to support the delivery of the project vision.
  • Help maintain and manage all camera, lighting, and grip equipment, recommending repairs or upgrades when needed.

Post-Production

  • Assist in ensuring footage is edited, colour-graded, and sound-designed in line with the intended style.
  • Provide basic video editing and sound design support.
  • Apply colour grading to edits where capable and required.
